Description

Etan is an architect in his thirties, designing homes and cities in a California reshaped by the Deluge. In a world where nearly every choice is suggested and every life is guided, society moves with the quiet efficiency of technology. People wear Rays, smart glasses that handle entertainment, communication, and knowledge. Some have even chosen the everlasting feature, a biochip procedure that grants eternal youth.

Etan has always followed the system, but something about the everlasting feature unsettles him. Questions he cannot answer begin to stir, and curiosity drives him beyond the lines society has drawn. His search for purpose and meaning leads him to communities outside the Union, where life is different, quieter, and free from the constant guidance he has always known.

But in his search for purpose, Etan wakes up in a world he never could have imagined, where the truths he trusted reveal just how deeply chained he has always been.
